Recently came across Mihir’s “Hand book of Chemical Process Engineering”. It is refreshing to note that a practicing Chemical Engineer with vast Process Design and Engineering experience has written a very useful and easy to understand book on Process Engineering.
Fresh Chemical Engineering graduates or Chemical Engineers working in manufacturing units, have limited exposure and knowledge of Design and Engineering organization’s way of working. There is some gap between the knowledge and skill the Chemical Engineer acquires during his studies, and skill required by Process Engineering/Project executing organizations. This handbook has very successfully addressed this gap and I am sure this Handbook is an excellent reference for Chemical Engineers associated with Chemical Industry.
The Hand book is divided in three volumes, first volume covers important information, design & sizing methods for various equipment and calculations for various unit operations in easy to understand language with ample examples. The entire volume is divided into 25 e-books and covers almost all aspects of Chemical Process Engineering.
The Second volume covers a very vital and important function of “Process Engineering documentation and management”. A thorough understanding of Engineering Documentation and Management by the design Engineers and Project Engineers is very essential for success of any project. This volume is divided into 15 e-books and covers almost all aspects of Process Engineering documentation management.
The third volume consists of calculation spreadsheets, datasheet formats and other useful templates that are required for carrying out Process Engineering. The entire set of spreadsheets/documents is editable and can be customized as needed.
Overall, this Handbook is a very useful tool not only for a fresh graduate engineer but also for any freelance process engineering consultant, engineers working in small engineering organizations, technical services/project teams of manufacturing companies for carrying out in-house modifications. I wish this handbook should reach to maximum number of chemical engineers who want to pursue career in Process Design and Engineering of Chemicals/Oil & Gas Projects.
